That all depends if you are applying for residency through the match or on your own. If you go through the match then you have to have the results of the Step 1, 2 CK and CS, by the time the deadline for the rank order list...which is typically the last week of February. Otherwise the NRMP will drop you from the match. If you are applying outside the match, then you just have to make sure you have met the qualifications for ECFMG certification by the time you start residency. Hope this answered your question.

2bmd, so one can try to get a residency for next year with Step 1 and 2 and then take the CS later just before starting the residency? Is that right?

All depends on the program. Some programs require US/Canadian grads to have passed CS before start of residency. Foreign grads, on the other hand, are required to be ECFMG certified before start of residency(or before Feb 17 or 23rd if applying for THE MATCH). Check with the individual programs for specifics.

Hi all. I am way behind with my exams but am trying to get everything done by march 2005. Does anyone know if I can still apply for the post match positions? And if so, how do I know which programs are still looking into filling possitions?

you have to apply for the match..the deadline was dec. 1..you can still apply, but there's an extra 50 dollar charge..residency positions not filled will be posted on internet march 14..unmatched applicants may start contacting the programs the following day for the "scramble"..final match positions are posted march 17th.
