What are the 4 cardinal signs of Narcolepsy? what is the new FDA approved drug for Narcolepsy? Please pardon me, if it is wrong place to post this topic. I thought it may go under sleep disorder. Give a shot..u guys are smart!

seen in youg adults, attacks in which the pt cant avoid falling a sleep, REM in 10 minutes, hypnagogic hallucinations. Rx-? perhaps a new sympathomimetic.?

1. excessive daytime sleepiness, 2. fragmentation of sleep during night, 3. hypnogogic or hypnopompic hallucinations, 4. cataplexy. Xyrem (sodium oxybate or gamma hydroxybutyrate, also known as GHB)

1.Excessive day time somnolence 2.Cataplexy: sudden weakness or loss of muscle tone without loss of counciousness, often elicited by emotions 3. Hypnogogic Hallucinations (at the onset of sleep) and or upon awakening (Hypnopompic hallucination) 4. Sleep paralysis : Muscular Paralysis upon awkening Drug : Modafinil 200-400mg/d single dose activates orexin containing neurons in the brain.
