Hi everybody, First I would like to say that I am not a medical student (though i am a student), but I have a question, so if these forums are not really the place, please forgive my rudeness! The question is: A couple of years back I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which really put into perspective a lot of troubles I had in life, and now I do OK, I am lucky to have parents who understand my illness and help me a lot with my journey through life. One thing that learning I was schizophrenic really clarified to me was my inability to compete or be competitive with people, I would always drop out when things got even slightly tough. However lately I am beggining to feel the confidence that I previously lacked to engage with people in this way, but I still feel that being competitive or competing is a bad thing. I sort of consider my general passiveness and non competitive nature to be a vital part of who I am, I think my perspective on life is a valid one, but of course one born of my illness. So I just wanted to ask if anybody has any perspectives on this or perhaps some directions to reading, and once again if I have intruded on a place of work I apologise.

hallo how are you.. dear friend.. I am not ; lets just say full blown physician yet, but I can totally understand what you are going thru.. I am currently finishing up my last year of medical school. so just take it as an opinion rather than a guide. I personally think; you are the only one who can help yourself, and your parents supporting you is the best thing. another great thing is that you are not in denial.. Dont be passive, you know you are better than that.. and you will be fine; medications nowadays are great ! more or so unbelivable, I know they may have side effects that may limit you to take them, (bachache etc.) but please do take them as they are going to more help than do harm. remember one thing; - dont you ever feel down ; cause nothing has changed ; you are still yourself and you can make difference in yourlife if you handle things with courage. well i dont want to give any medical advice and guide you in wrong direction as I am still learning medicine myself. but I want you to be happy and that s all it matters to people around you. take care dharam - from SGUSOM
