USMLE Step 3 assesses the ability to apply the medical knowledge and understanding of clinical science in unsupervised patient care, with emphasis on patient management.
The questions and clinical cases start with a description of a patient encounter (vignette) in an action-related challenge testing your clinical decisions or judgment.
Although emphasis is on ambulatory patient encounters, inpatient encounters are also represented.
In this examination it is assumed that basic and clinical sciences have been tested adequately in the Step 1 and Step 2 examinations.
