Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Just a quick note to share my post-exam thoughts ....

Very tough. Questions are just plain strange. Lots and lots of electrolyte and ABG questions (not pure electrolytes, just as diagnostic clues). That having been said, I feel better about this exam than I did for step I. These questions are not as wierd or out there. I studied from Kaplan notes and was getting in the 80-90s on Kaplan question bank. Took NBME 4 days before the test and got 530 (not very good considering my q bank scores). Anyway I felt I did better on NBME than on the real test. I don't know what you should study for this test. I think only the bigger books are really helpful for medicine and pedi. Kaplan is fine for surg and OB-GYN and maybe psych (lots and lots of psych questions). For medicine and pedi even the bigger books will only help so much. I feel the best prep for this is just working in the wards. If you have been away from clinical medicine for a while like me, reading books will only help you so much. Anyway, now just have to wait and see.

I don't know what advice to give. You read Kaplan books and you learn something. But most of the med/pedi questions (which are the majority of the test) are not really from the books. I would have felt more comfortable if I had had more questions to practice on of the type on the exam. Kaplan Q bank is nothing like the test (which I expected). I didn't do USMLE world. Maybe I should have. Anyway, maybe I did ok with just Kaplan. We will see in a month. I never feel good after these type tests. We shall see....

i did join usmleworld...good for learning...but actual exam is very confusing...ques too long with lots of confusing info....timing is a big problem...

after the exam i was feeling very unsure...cant say anything...i think i had same feeling after step 1 and scored 90....so just keeping my fingers crossed...

the oasis trick seems very helpful...will check as soon as my scores are reported....thanks to the great mind who discovered it
