Hi! I have scored good in usmle step 1. I want to have a list of residency programs and their requirements. I dont even have idea about residency. I have heard there are some combined programs like internalmed+genetics, etc. Someone told me that IMGs usually cant have residency in surgery. Whats catagorial? Is there any good site explaining all this. This seems more complicated than steps. Thanx in Advance

Be careful of the difference between categorical and preliminary surgery positions. Preliminary means that it's a one year surgery program. Categorical is the whole residency. I have seen IMG's in surgery programs. It's not as common as other specialties, but not impossible. Check the ACGME web site for all the accredited programs in all specialties in the country. Good luck
