It recognizes the replication origin. Also it opens the double helix at that site to form a replication bubble with a replication fork at each end.
What is it?? {Hint the first letter begins with a D}

DNA Helicase would do that. Counter question... How does it recognises the replication site???

I remember reading somewhere that it recognizes special bases like A and T, dont know if its correct?

the first is the protein A that attaches to the helix, then the helicase can come about and start its workings.
