 Hi Naty It is a pleasure to know someone from ones country, who could be passing through the same things than oneself Well, Like you have taken one Step in july, i've just done the same but with Step 2 on July 29th Do you really know how long we have to wait for the results?, I know they say from 4 to 6 weeks. Would you mind telling me which books you have used to prepare your exam? On Step 2 i have used all the Kaplan series, and Blueprints Good luck, and thank you for your reply

hey! it took exactly 6 weeks to receive my score. So, relax and wait. thank you for your advice on the books... actually i was wondering which one to use. for step 1, i used first aid and the princeton review. the latter i dont know if i would ecommend it. NMS is the book i used for questions. i also studied from different books: biochemistry and pharmacology i studied from the lippincots illustrated reviews (hihly recommended)and for microbioloy i usedMicrobiology made ridiculously simple. I dont know, may be you can use the princeton rview for a guideline. one tip: learn good general sciences!!!! and do questions questions questions.!! here is my email if you want to write to me: natyjirafa@hotmail.com great knowing that there is someone else i Argentina that is as crazy as i am! naty

Hello, Iīm studying at the University of Córdoba and expecting to graduate within the next 2 years, afterwhich I plan to take the USMLE. I wanted to ask you what university you went to and if you think the level of education obtained was enough for Step I. How did you prepare for the exam?? Best wishes, Leandro mdlam79@hotmail.com

md2bsoon..... I am from University of Cordoba too. I graduated last december and took this year off to prepare and take the steps. I already passed step 1 with a REALLY good score, so... yesss... it is possible. Our education is good enough if you took advantage of it. As we all know, is not really THAT hard to become an MD here... but resources are not that bad if you know were to find them. A piece of advice... if you are still taking course in UNC, try to supplement your study with books written in english, specitally the ones designed for USMLE. Iīll be happy to lend you a few for xerox copies. Keep it up! Guillermo.

Hello gballarino, Thanks for the tips. As of yet Iīm not formally preparing for the exams, but I have been studying in english some of the subjects (Robbins path., Ross histo., some of Goodman pharm.). Certainly this helps, but I think I should focus more on what is to be tested, so if you do have anything it will be greatly appreciated. Talk to you later.

MD2BSOON...
I have been studying in english some of the subjects (Robbins path., Ross histo., some of Goodman pharm.). Studying your med school subjects in english will make it easier for you to go trough the actual step 1 more smoothly. Time really is a factor in acing the exam, and you should take all measures needed in order to be fast and accurate. I worked a lot in timing and accuracy by making literally thousands of mock tests and question banks. But what really improved my answering skills was my english practice with english medical textbooks. Many people take "medical english" courses at the university... personally, I think those courses are not necesary nor useful at all, but is not a bad idea to hard-wire those technical words from day one.
Certainly this helps, but I think I should focus more on what is to be tested It is essential that you focus on what is to be tested. You probably wonīt make it otherwise. You NEED a good comprehensive text to serve as a guide... something like "First Aid for usmle step1", or "Crush the boards", and stuff like that. In this web site you can find lists of recommended books for all subjects, "comprehensive" among them. My humble personal advice is that you use comprehensive books JUST as a guide. I used First Aid and Kaplan volumes as comprehensive/review material, and for my weak points I used NMS and BRS series... not all of them of course. I used Lippincottīs review of pharmacology, and had to re-study several chapters of robinsīpathology. Harrisonīs principles of internal medicine came up handy a few times to clear up some issues, too. When you a have a good, comprehensive guide, then you know what is it that you have to study... then you just grab what you have at hand to get stronger in your weak points.
so if you do have anything it will be greatly appreciated Anything?? I have a lot!. Just ask. Good Luck!.

MD2BSOON: I have Lippincottīs and NMS review of pharmacology. Both of them have practice questions for every chapter, plus, a comprehenseive examination at the end. It includes explained answers. About Q&A material, I have "NMS Review Tests", which includes some pharmacology questions, though they are mixed with the other subjects.

Hi Dr Eye Would you mind to explain my what MCCQe means?, is it an exam to get a medical license in Canada? Sorry, I donīt know But in relation to STep 2, it depends on you, if you have clinical experience because you have leave the University some years ago, and now you are practicing medicine perhaps it is easier begin with it than with step 1, but donīt worry my friend the tests are not difficult to pass if one studies enough. The point is just to study BIG concepts, no robbins Cotran, even though a lovely text, it is too much for these tests, and you really never will finish preparing them. THE TESTS HAVE QUESTIONS which have been made WITH VERY GOOD CRITERIA, such to test on very big subjects

Yes MCCQE is the evaluating exams for Canada. Ihave been in practice for several years and its seems to me easier the clinical aspects rather than the basic sciences questions .Anyway the canadian exams as opposed to USMLE do not allow to take clinics before basic sciences [CODE]

 Ok Dr Eye, I don't know how difficult Canadian tests are, but Step 1 is based on essential knowledge, BIG CONCEPTS, most of them about pathology and physiology My best wishes for you!
