I got 227/92. I don't know whether this score is ok for me to get an IM/Path/Neuro position. I heard the mean drifted upwards these days. It seems every IMG is getting >95. I am really worried. I cannot retake the exam.
If I work harder on step 2 and get a better score, will it compensate a little bit. Someone told me that what the the residency program directors care is just your step 1 score and a pass on step 2 is fine. Is it true.

Really appreciate it if someone can answer my questions. I know I got a just-so-so score. Really disappointed.

Dr. Lee,

Although I am not an IMG, I think you have a great score for an internal medicine, pathology, neuro position. If you were going for dermatology, ENT, or plastic surgery, it would definitely be a more competitive field. However, you have an awesome score! What are you worried about? There are always open spots in internal medicine and from my experience with colleagues going into pathology, it is not as competitive as some other fields. Please take a moment to appreciate the great score that you have and disregard the negative comments you may hear from other people. There are many of us who are struggling to even pass this exam, so please be mindful of how fortunate you are to have gotten such a fantastic score. As an AMG with 2 IMG parents practicing medicine in the states (my dad is in internal medicine, with a board score of 90), you are doing fine. Program directors care more about your Step 2 scores than your Step 1 scores. It is your clinical knowledge that they care more about, not the basic sciences. What you heard is simply not true. There's absolutely no reason to be down on yourself.
