I am planning to retake it in jan. 2005.I have studied for 5 months. Hi kabbadi!
I know it’s not easy when you find out that you didn’t pass exam, but comparing to me you have advantage because you know from your own experience how difficult or easy is the exam or exam situation. You don’t need to check every post (as I do) to see how does that stupid test look in reality, and most of all you will spent almost the same time to pass that exam from 2nd chance as I need to pass it from the 1st time, and God knows will I.
You pick up great books for the exam so try to analyze where you were making mistakes during studying? Are you working at the same time or having your own family?
My advice would be to go once more again through all the same materials, and make notes in your FA. For a source of qs you can use the Pretest books (qs from it are little bit difficult but still useful), qbook, and NMS book. You already done qbank so there’s no need to spend money on something you already saw (maybe 2week before exam). In last weeks before exam do only FA (in which you were making notes during studying) and maybe Step Up (Mehta, author), its good review book too, divided by disciplines.
Wish you a lot of patience and luck!

Hi md friend
Thanks a lot for giving me so much courage. I really appreciate it.I am married, work 3 days a week.So i think that i have enough time for study. Now i am looking for study group for step-1, is that would be helpfull to me?I am also looking for some good review books like you said pretest series. I have found some Q's(30-40%) in these books priety same as they were presented on my exam, especially pretest pharmacology& pathology books have good questions. So i am gonna buy these two books very soon. Also i have bought Goljan's rapid review series. This is a great book for pathology review. Thanks again and i wish u best of luck &high score in your test.

Well marriage and any job even 3d/w are enough reasons that 5 mo of studying aren’t enough to pass this difficult exam.
If you like studying group you can try, although don’t expect any shortcuts cause you need time to go several times through all those materials no matter are you learning alone or not. Live studying gr can take you a lot of time & if you ask me they are good for the beginners who forgot even concept from some subjects, so they can expect mutual benefits form it in saving their time. You are much above the level of a beginner. Maybe you can try with someone from the net who is in the same situation as you, just to encouraging each other. Chat’s groups can help you too.
I live far away from you & my exam is in several wks, so I can’t join any group.
Regards!

Hi mdfriend,
NO...chat is not based on any short cuts ...We are covering every chapter from Kaplan Notes with all Qs and other study materials !

YES...chat is good for beginners ( beginners who are going to take step 1 ) and according to you these guys who are attending chats forgot concepts ??...well maybe you are right maybe not  ...all participants are not second year students here who have fresh memory of step1 subjects. In my opinion lots of students here are busy in other parts of life and lots of way are way ahead in compare to second year students ( but,as an IMG need to pass USMLE )..

I appreciate your postings including answer to my questions too...
keep up
Regards

Hi Niti!
Sorry for misunderstanding. I really don’t have anything against any studying group. My comment on studying group was particularly on kabbadi’s last post & q for serious studying partner. He asked me where do I live, so I understood him that he was pointing on the idea that maybe we can meet somewhere and study (or repeat) together. That kind of gr I called live studying groups & for them I think they are for beginners (but maybe I’m wrong there, too). Of course that a chat group is something completely different & according to the qs they are talking about it’s far away from beginners level & really helpful (even if you are not familiar with a subject they are chatting about you can learn a lot form the ans)!
Regards!

You know guy this is a very good forum for first takers or second.

When I start studying for the test I have not clue how to start , I went to my old books, until someone told me about this forum which has answering all my question ,in one hour ,in one day, or in a week, but they do answer.
I did not pass in my first attemp, but I am still here meeting people that encourage you to continue studying.

My mistake was been working more than 40 hours a week and studing only like from 6 pm until 12 midnigth, but it was not my only mistake, also getting a family time, going with my wife yo dance on weekends,I did study but it was not enough.

If we really want to pass, we have to just think about the test dream about the test, any moment is important to lernd, today my concentration is more even I don't have enogh time for my family but I have to pass, when I get tire of reading, I just get into this forum and lernd from all of you.

Today my only party is this forum and one hour of aerobics.

Wish the best.
