i dont know who suggested u to apply to only 30 univ programs. In case u r not bent on going to a univ program only, better apply to few community programs also (especially if u want H1).

b/w which univ program did u got interview from ?

Hey I agree. Apply to more programs. And, if you only applied to universities, you need to apply to community hospitals as well. I am in the same boat you are, not having taken step II yet. I think most programs will wait to invite you for an interview until you have your step II scores. This is not true for all programs, and it is not necessary for US students. As you did well in your Step I, you might still get interviews though. I applied for both med and pedi, and have gotten many pedi interviews but not many IM (I think now I have 8 ). Keep in mind I don't need a visa. It is also a function of the quality of the programs you applied to. NYC has too many programs and takes many IMGs

hey...thanks for the info retroviridae..
yep...Out of the 30 programs I initially applied to, about 10 were community based...anyways Ive just applied to about 8 more programs...all either community based or community/uni affiliated....4 in NY....
I heard that most interview calls are sent out by MID november...Is that true?

apply to at least 100 programs

By mid-november, I am almost through with setting up interviews. I might do 10-15 more by then.

BBB- Thanks for replying.....I was thinking of waiting till the first week of nov to see if I get any calls and then applying to more progs...What do you think?

Yes, BBB, my application won't be complete until late Nov (due to reporting of Step II scores). So, for your progam at least. chances are by that time you won't have any more openings? Would you even consider an application which is completed that late?

interesting discussion. I have applied to some 52 programs overall & that was 3 weeks back. So far i have 2 rejections & interviews for 4 programs lined up. Is there like an estimate time where one can say that further interviews are unlikely to be forthcoming?

btw bbb i did not manage to see your tips for interviewing on this forum could you point them out please?

thanks

Its all about supply and demand. If a program is desperate and needs you they will do anything they can, 180 degree out of their usual way to get you in and if they dont need ya they have 10000 excuses and requirements ready to meet for the applicants SPECIALLY FOR IMG'S...

It's rediculous...we pay higher fee for CSA and steps even though we don't make in dollars. We cant schedule in Philli so "AMG'S" can take their exams so IMGS buy a connection ticket (pay more bucks to Airline industry). ECFMG run days behind their schedule for IMGS to scan documents in and nobody can do anything about it (who cares about IMG'S????? )..Programs want US clinical experience but if you want to get one....FORGET about it..you can't get one....... WHAT IS THIS????? IS IT FAIR????

I want to screammmmmmmmmm

sk, don't wait.. applying now is better than later.
If you wait, you won't find empty spots.
It's your choice!
