ANS CNS---effernt pathway inervate and regulate : smooth muscle ,cardiac muscle and glands. Somatic nervous system inervate Skeletal muscle. What are the three divisions: easy guys.

Organization of ANS Synapses between neurons are made in Autonomic ganglia. Which ganglia are located in or near the effector organs? Which ganglia are located in parevertebral chain? .

Preganglionic neurons have their cells bodies in the cns and synapse in autonomic ganglia. Questions: In what spinal cord segments preganglionic neurons of the SNS originate? Preganglionic neurons of the PNS originate in:

Putting it together: Parasympathetic (cranial sacral) long preganglionic short postganglionic the ganglion is near the effector organ eg the vagus Sympathetic (thoracolumbar) short preganglionic long postganlionic the ganglion is near at the sympathetic chain eg cervical ganglion

juanmaOt what saying about the Cranial nerves and spinal cord segment S2-S4 , cranial sacral region, is what I think.Well back to the subject: Postganglionic neurons have the cell bodies in the autonomic ganglia and synapse on effector organs EX heart, blood vessel, sweat glands. adrenal medula is a specialized ganglion of the SNS Where preganglionic fibers synapse in adrenal medula? They also secret epinephrine and NE.

Addendum: The Craniosacral nervous system is associated with CN III,VII,IX, and X and S2,S3,S4. The end organ GANGLION in the head for example are: Ciliary, Pterygopalatine,Otic and submandibular. By the way I agree with Mani-The thoracolumbar nervous system is between T1 and L2.(BRS review book???) All postganglionic axons are unmyelinated. Because the cervical cord contains no nuclei from which sympathetic fibers originate, preganglionic fibers of the upper four to five thoracic segments spread rostrally within the paravertebral trunk to three ganglia in the cervical segments of the trunk. These are the superior, middle, and inferior cervical ganglion. The last one is aso called the stellate ganglion.

The answer is this: Adrenal medulla is a specialized ganglion of the SNS. Preganglionic fibers synapse directly on Chromaffin cells in the adrenal medulla. The chromaffin cells secret Epinephrine 80% and norepinephrine 20% into the circulation.

mjl1717 and mani what juanmaOT said is about the Craniosacral region that mani forgot to mention.and in my book is T1-L3. Preganglionic neurons of the PNS originate nuclei of cranial nerves and in the spinal cord segments S2-S4. And for Preganglionic neurons of the SNS originate in spinal cord segments T1_L3 or thoracolumbar region.(Book of BRS Physiology)

Book james D.Fix second edition HY neuroanatomy. Lippincott Williams and Wilkins. Page 99 Figure 18-1 said The sympathetic(thoracolumbar) innervation of the ANS.The entire sympathetic innervation of the head is through the superior cervical ganglion. Gray communicating rami are found at all spinal cord levels.White communicating rami are found only in spinal segment T1 through L3.

Receptor types in ANS : Adrenergic receptors wich are alpha 1, alpha2,betha 1,betha 2. Cholinergic receptors: Nicotinic receptors and muscarinic receptors. Adrenergic receptors Alpha 1 receptors; are located on vascular smooth muscle of the skin and splanchnic region, the GI and bladder sphincters, and radial muscle of IRIS. Q they produce exitation or inhibition? Can you tell me the mechanism of action?
