Match date is in March, graduation date (in most countries I think?) is early June in my country. I can't get ECFMG certified until I have grauduated (I suppose), can I still get into a residency program the same year as I'm graduating? (this is how all Americans do it...)

very unlikely, competition is too high nobody would wait until you graduate unless program director is your personal friend

Is this really true? I mean, after all, the U.S. med students haven't graduated either when they match. Do all IMG:s really wait a year?? I really want to know cause this would kind of mean that there's no reason for me rushing the steps...

No, I don't think they can. You have to be ECFMG certified to stay in the match, and to be certified you must have graduated. Yes, many IMGs wait more than a year!

You can, in theory, be matched. We had someone this year do that. But, because his school was so slow with the paperwork, he didn't start residency until September 1. The PD and I decided that we have to watch for that this year.

So is it adviced not to try to match the same year as graduation then (the whole matching procedure is a bit too expensive to be done twice...) even if you've passed the steps?

Of course, it makes no sence to apply for residency before graduation date, I doubt you would even get any interviews. US graduates and IMGs are treated differently in the United States. You would be considered very lucky if you can get residency a year after your graduation.
