i agree with the above mentioned answers ....
but there is a point i cant understand ... the question says (laboratory test is most likely to explain the pathophysiologic cause of the increase) ... meaning the investigation he;ping in the diagnosis of the increaded level of the gastrin hormone ( not gastric acid ) .... so, how gastric acid analysis trigger me to the cause of high level of gastrin which is commonly zollinger ellison syndrome ....
i may be wrong in understanding the question so please tell me about the explanation ....

ZE is diagnosed by the presence of multiple ulcers all around the antrum and beyond. Not the acid. ZE is a result of the increased acid in stomach due to some other reason that actually increases the acid.

shawky, incresaed gastrin may be primary due to ZE synd or it may be secondary to reduced gastric acid eg in atrophic gastritis. Measuring the gastric acid level will help to differentaite between these 2 conditions
