good afternoon everyone. Ive had a pretty lazy morning and lunch time. A little too much sleeping and having fun this weekend. Having a hard time getting back into the swing of things now. Been trying to get through some renal path....ugg...my mind is just not into it this morning. gonna try to get some questions done maybe in the meantime since I dont feel like working much at the moment.

tired again this morning. got up early again, earlier than I normally would. Spending the morning trying to get my deposit back from my apartment in Miami...... spent most of the day working on Renal path yesterday, didn't do very well on the robbins review questions though. Still a poor subject area for me. Gonna spend the morning adding notes to FA over renal path then move onto Acid/Base physio. Then after that maybe move into GIT physio/Path? I'll see how things look then.

morning everyone, its a cold morning here! and I am finding out that almost all my sweaters are at the dry cleaners (haven't been worn in over 2 years). so I've been looking for something warm to wear most of the morning ..... Yesterday i went over some more renal path, start GI path and did a quick once over GI physio. did 56 questions in IV qbank (2/3 done now) and 25 questions in physio qbank plan to continue on with the GI stuff and do acid/base physio. add --------- too funny! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4092345.s...

morning everyone! slept later today to catch up on some much needed rest. I'm almost done with GI, just want to go over the digestive stuff. Then I'll go on and do Endocrine Path with Dr. Goljan and then begin my trek through Endo Phys. Prob do Endocrine today, tommorow and the day after that. Since it sounds like endocrine is heavily tested these days. that would be put me on the 18th? So after that, I would be done with Physio. I'd have to spend a day or two finishing up the misc lectures by goljan. Then I'll move on into Pharm And hopefully get in some Micro before New years.

welp finished up GI phys this morning. Moved onto Endo Path (wnt through Goljan). Did a bit of photo copying, etc to figure out those enzyme defincies in the adrenal gland, very confusing forgot a few things. Regarding insulin? Does Hyperkalemia induce insulin release? I know there is a link between insulin and potassium, I just can't remember it right now. And is insulin the phosphorylator or is glucagon? Not much else. DId some questions in IV qbank. Worked out again. Put up some new years resolutions on a different forum of mine. THought I'd post them here too. 1. "Get back in A shape" whether it be round or losing weight. I gotta pick one and stick with it! Been working towards the goal every night. I hit the gym after studying all day then come home to eat my mom's cooking right before sleep. Its a see-saw battle. 2. Kick ass on (at least a 220) on the first part of my boards in Febuary 3. Hrmm, think about dating again? My current mistress (med school) is a b1tch and gets jealous if I get out much... Today was the final day of class (ie final test) at the med school library I've been studying at. So as of tommorow, they go to winter holiday hours. Which really sucks because I'm no home studier! Studying at home = death sentence

hi imbebo you are going very well in ur studies....keep it up!!! insulin is used in the treatment of hyperkalemia....because...insulin acts synergistically with glucose to inc the uptake of K+ by the cells. hope this helps you. happy studying!!!

Hi Imbebo Yeah, I've got the same problem. We finished for the term this afternoon, but everyone has already gone home for the hols. In fact, I think I've got this whole floor of the library to myself right now. Hope your general sleeping patterns are ok. Take care of yourself, amigo! Moc

Hi Imbebo! Keep up your studies! No matter what distractions surround you, you are doing the right thing. Passing the USMLE 1 is your priority, the rest is secondary. If someone loves you - girlfriend, etc, then that person will understand and help you to pass this exam. I learned that the hard way and lost a lot of precious time that I could have used to take this exam last month. Do not let others distract you from your #1 goal. Keep up the great work! I will also be holed up in the local university library this Sunday - also a very eerie feeling since all the students are on winter break. Best wishes, pinkangel

Hi just a quick update I really haven't gotten much done of late. Was a bit burned out. Seems to be a running them right now. Having a hard time studying on weekends. I think a part of is it that I don't have the friend support network around me anymore. In the terms that before I'd have friend studying with me on the weekends, in a way forcing me to study and sit down. Slept really late this morning. Got to the library after i had lunch with my mom. Got through GH and PRL in the endocrine chapter of physiology BRS. Then to mix things up, I went into some antimicrobial pharm. I think I was getting tired of what I was doing before. So a change of subject sometimes gets my interest back up. Going to lay off questions till I start falcon. Figure I'll try to get as much time as I can reading and studying now. a friend just took his step, he posted his experience here. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=... he should do really really really well.

well. I finally got up at a decent time. Going to try and get in bed by 10 pm (its hard for me -- I'm a night person). I got through most of physio. It really helped that I found my typed out notes from when I took physio last year. I made my own notes from the STARS book. So it helped refresh my memory. But I had to finish it (calcitonin and vitamin D). Plus I never did reproductive from it (lack of time then -- too much time making the notes). So I started off doing some reproductive (female) phys today. I'm doing the preggo changes now. Then I'll have lactation, menapause, and male repro. I'm 1/2 through antimicrobials. Making lists of the ototoxic drugs, nephrotoxic, etc. Stuff like that. I pretty much have anti-protozoals, viral and antifungal drugs. a lot there, but not like the antibacterial drugs. I believe thats it for right now. Gonna try and do some more goljan path tonight (heme - skipped it before).

Hey Imbebo! You're doing great! Reproductive physio is a pain in the rear, but you got through it. Have fun listening to Goljan. Listening to his lectures are the best time of the day for me. Happy Holidays, pinkangel

even folks. Woke up a bit later today. I had my alarm set for 7 pm, not 7 am . Oh well, as long it doesn't happen in febuary when it counts So I finished the endo stuff. Slow day really. Did 100 questions in IV qban, 84% done? My shoulder's been killing me all day (slept on it wrong I guess), so writing was a bit hard today. Go through macrocytic anemias in goljan. not much else to report.

That's good. Are you doing regular Qbank as well? I found it's easier to score higher on IV Qbank (Though I wasn't able to finsh all) but not the case for Qbank. What do you think?

umm, I'm waiting to start reg qbank until I get a little closer to the test date. I've been working through IV and Physio qbank mostly. IV does seem to lead you through questions. Physio can be tough. Doing alright in it though. Percentages for IV qbank - 64% (ranges from high 40s to high 80s) Physio qbank - ~60% ? (low as 50 and high as 80 [just did GI physio on that one]) I figure I'll start Reg qbank the 1st week of January? Maybe 2nd. Not really sure. I have until Feb 14th to finish it before my subscription runs out. Kaplan won't allow me to extend the subscription to my test date of Feb 26th. I'll also be getting access to exammaster with falcon.
