Dear Ms bbb thank you for your earlier responses!

I have finished step 1 (93) step2 CK/CS (awaiting results).

1) I have heard that transitional year positions are looked down upon. You are hired to do scutwork and then fired after a year leaving you looking like you did not perform well and causing you to have problems with finding other positions too. What is your opinion on this.
I feel that as an IMG you are stuck between a rock and a hard place because you need US experience and are damned if you dont but you are also damned if you do.

2)Could you please elaborate on how to best get this experience once you are no longer a medical student?

3) If I want to start in general surgery 3y and after this change to plastic surgery for another 3y. Is the J1 visa the better option?

1. Trans residents in this hospital are just like every other intern.
2. What experience?
3. Never worked in surgery - can't answer.....
