Hi im an IMG from India but currently in usa i have taken step 1, CSA but im taking step 2 in dec2004...what r my chances if i apply for match programs to get into residency next year...i have score of 94 in step 1...i want to go into surgery..is it possible for me? i dont have any US experience..i mean ultimately i wanna do cardiovascular surgery but where should i apply first? surgery or thoracic surgery? whats transitional year? or i should just stick with applying to internal medicine programs?
suggestions from anyone would b appreciated..thanx

Hi, first of all take a deep breath.
Transitional year is the way to inmigrants, resident director hire MD FOR only 1 YEAR, that is transitional year, and then upon your skills you have chance to be accepted for the following 2 years that is Surgery residence. It is wear if someone hire you for the entire 3 year period.
And other point it is very important for you to try to get clinical practice in USA, to practice with american patients.
ERAS Deadline( way that you must to follow for the match) is december 1st, but you can apply only with you step 1 ( you have a nice score) and also with the Step 2 CS. AND in the application you can allowed that Director program have acces to your step 2 CK score after 4 weeeks that you take that.
You don't have to wait until you get your score of step 2 ck( that if you take on december, you will get it on January).

thnx for ur consideration...im preparing for step2 too right now,,havet finished kap notes yet,,will finish by 20th nov according to my time table..lol i know its wierd but i usually stick to my time table...then i'll start revising all the text n start doing as many questions as i can...im planning to do Kap Q bank, Mock exam, n USMLE's insider's guide which has good questions..n then ill take CCSSA by 10th-12th dec as my exam is on 22nd dec..i wish u best of luck for ur exams...i remember how i took my step1..no Q bank..just few questions from it n some questions from a CD my friend had compiled plus usmle CD n i didt sleep night b4 my exam coz i just couldt..n it did affect me during exam,,coz my score was 94...i was hoping better but i think sleep does help..hope i do better on step 2.
