Hi people. Inspired by the succesful previous dairys we have seen here, I think it's time to have mine posted. I started preparing for Step 1 a month ago, with Neuroanatomy. I didn't complete it and have a very loose schedule. It wasn't until September 20 that I had a "shower of reality", when I sat down a Kaplan Diagnostic Exam at the Kaplan Centre, here in Montreal, and I did 44%!!!! Then,I planned my study more seriously. My long term plan is as follows. Note I work half time and that I graduated this year: 1. Pathology: September 20 -October 15 2. Physiology: October 16- November 19 3. Anatomy: Nov 20- Dec 20 4. Pharma: Dec 21- Jan 21 (My weakest discipline) 5. Bioch: Jan 22- Feb 20 6. Behavioural: Feb 21- Feb 28 (My strongest discipline) 7. Microbiology: March 1- March 15 (My second strongest one) 8. Review: March 16- March 30 STEP 1: APRIL 1 My goal is to end at least a week before each deadline. I have all the standard books and plan to join Kaplan Q Bank when I am about to finish Pathology to do full-lenght tests twice a month. Actually, I'm studying patho-physio-pharmachology now, since every link I find from patho to other discipline, I study it in-depth to both better understand a single topic and to release pressure for the future topics. Any comment is welcome and I would be pleased to help you planning and pacing your study as well. All the best, Ricardo (drstepbystep)

Reporting Sept 29 Ok,I should be done with Patho in Oct 15. Then, I have approximately 1 1/2 day per each of this divisions, according to First Aid: 1. Endocrine 2. Neurologic 3. Neoplastic 4. Hemato 5. Gastro 6. Resp 7. Repro 8. Cardio 9. Renal 10. Alcohol 11. Rheumatic 13 Congenital 14. TEST Nevertheless I have been studying endocrine (including physiology) for 5 days!!!! I can't help it. But, the true thing is that sometimes I waste the whole afternoon, like today. Uhm... OK. Today I am studying all the thyroid pathology: - Thyroid Cancer - Hypo/hyper - Thyroiditis PLEASE SEND QUESTIONS ON THESE TOPICS IF YOU HAVE ANY.

Ok... So this weekend wasn't very good for my study since I had lots of other stuff. :? Regarding neoplastic pathology, today I have done the following: - Nomenclature (spend a lot of time, but worthy) - Bone tumors: Bening--> Osteocondroma and Giant cel tumor Malignant---> Osteosarcoma, Ewing's Sarcoma and Chondrosarcoma I'm going slower than I expected. I have all the afternoon (5 hours) to study, but I don't use them all. OK, keep you posted

Are you a second year and study for step one the same time as school or are you out of school studying for step one? I've tried studying for school while studying for class but there seem to not be enough time to master both so I end up just studying for class. Who do you manage your time?

Uhmmm.... Seems you don't get the picture. I am a GRADUATE, and I am working part-time in research. I manage my time virtually as I wish, since there is no pressure from my boss to finish the research project soon! However, retrospectively, I wish I had studied when I was in second year and so on. Believe me: you DO have time when you are at school. It is only a matter of commitment. You can do it.

Oct 14: Ok, so far I have been working in Pathology, following the sequence of loosely related facts in First Aid but reading the full reference in BRS for each topic. The result is that I know the high-yield topics in First Aid, but with the deepness of BRS. However, if you take a look at my chronogram in the first post, you will see that tomorrow is the deadline to finish pathology!!!! I have covered only 30% of topics, though. What I'll do is taking a 50 question session from Kaplan Qbank (I'll enroll tomorrow) and see what is my level so far. So, wish me good luck. Todays topics: Volvolus, Intussuception, Congenital pyloric stenosis, Poliarteritis Nodosa and Wegener's disease.

I got 85% in Endo, which I had studied completely , 75% in Gastro and 60% in Neuro, which I had studied only partially. There is a notable difference with Reproductive, which I had not studied a single word: 20%. Overall, I got 60% in this test... Thanks all.
