What is the exception to the rule that fatty acids cannot be converted to glucose in humans :?:

  #2

Because conversion of pyruvate to acetyl CoA is irreversible.

It sure is irreversible smiling face There is an exception to the general rule though. Sometimes we can convert fatty acid into glucose. Could you name the pathway :?:

odd number fatty acids break the rule ... succinyl CoA can find its way to the TCA ...acetyl Coa ..,u know the grind form here ...

It is also interesting to consider the case of ketosis (metabolic adaptation to starvation) in which the familiar pathway of conversion from glycerol to glucose in the liver is replaced with conversion (esterification) of free fatty acids to VLDL, which also completes the cycle. The familiar pathway is the carbohydrate cycle whereas the latter is the lipid cycle.
