you sure about the atrial fibrillation, if you go to emedicine website, and do a search on digitalis toxicity...

answer must be a digoxin is used in AF with CHF or as third line drug to beta blockers and calcium channel blockers for rate control of the ventricle.Digoxin itslef is not capable of termintaing AF.Digoxin itseld dosent produce AF thogh it can cause VPC VF Atrial premature complexes and vetricular tachycardia.Digoxin can cause AV dissociation.

Here is the word from the Errogant one. :-) Since Dig blocks ATPase, thereby increasing Na concentr in cell, and secondarily inhibiting Na/Ca exchng, it essentialy causes A-V block. Hence, the slow conduction, which may cause ventricular tachycardia, ventricular ectopics by the Early depolarization mechanism, NodalR- is one of the most common side effects, u ll see it in elderly especially post surgery. Atrial Tachy with slow V response is the sign of toxicity. So A. Fib is the only one left. All that besides the point that it is used for teatment of A. Fib.

Mdwannabe ,ofcourse you are not arrogant I agree for Afib but again confusion ,since it is used in Afib treatment . Why not nodal rhythm ??

as above, it causes nodal rhythm by inhibiting conduction. Seen as levels of Dig increase in response to Hypo K, or Dehydro.
