If you say a virus is negative stranded -what exactly does that mean?

virus is negative stranded -...means they can not ...directly tranlate in to protien
Negative-stranded RNA must first be converted into +RNA (mRNA) by the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase incorporated in the virion.and then the mRNA can then be translated into proteins.

Negative sense RNA is the homolog of regular mRNA.

All negative sense RNA viruses must carry with them an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. This polymerase generates positive sense RNA that is used as mRNA and as a template for replicating the negative sense genome.

Naked negative sense RNA is not infectious, but naked positive sense RNA is.
