Acebutolol Pindolol Labetalol. All 3 have minimum/ no lipid and glucose metabolism influence. Don't think they actually lower lipid levels....

i guess the misunderstanding is in lower vs don't increase lipid levels. beta blockers like the ones with ISA and Labetalol, Esmolol do not increase LDL C and TG levels, as the others do. this doesnt mean that they decrease it! if i am wrong, please provide some referrence books which state this lipid lowering effect of beta blockers, cause I havent read it anywhere. thanx.

Alina T u r right.i m also confused with this thing lower vs don't increase lipid levels. any way i think Acebutolol Pindolol, these both we can use during pre exsisting hyperlipidemia.they both cause minimal change in lipids. any thing wrong. correct me pls.

I agree with Alina-C'mon If beta blocker "LOWERED" lipod levels that would be front page information!! :!: {If anything pindolol and acebutolol have minimal effect on lipod levels}

No Labetalol is completely different- Its a competitve antagonist at the alpha 1 and Beta receptors. (peripheral vasodilation) Pindolol is a NS beta antagonist with ISA Acebutolol is a beta1 antagonist with some ISA **The last 2 have mild B1 and B2 agonist effects thats probably why they are favorable if the pt has high lipod levels!

Does B2 blockers do increase lipids or cholesterol levels, or is just propranolol with this property?

In general we're saying that all beta blockers increase lipod levels except pindolol and acebutolol.

yes, mjl, this is the traditional idea that those with ISA do not affect lipid levels. but if u check closer, u'll find these other 2 that i mentioned (Labetalol and Esmolol ) as beta blockers that don't alter lipids also. i found it in Lipp pharm or Kaplan.
