can steroid inhaler be taken as needed for Asthma after sympomes have been controlled and are less?...or can we only do that with Beta agonists?

Beta agonist inhaler because it acts fast when needed. Steroid inhaler whould take a long time for action.

beta agonists are for acute relief. depending on a patient's symptomatology (frequency of nighttime symptoms, attacks, etc), you might decide to add a steroid inhaler for daily use (not prn) for control. you NEVER use steroid inhalers "as needed" coz that would defeat the purpose.
