Could someone please explain the resin T3 uptake test? What is done ? What is the inference drawn ?

Any input is appreciated.

To the sample of serum to be tested, we add labelled T3 and then add a resin as secondary binder. if thyroid binding globulins are already occupied less of radioactive T3 will bind to it and more of it will be available to bind to senondary binder. The amount of T3 bound to resin is then measured. So in case of hyperthyroidism we will have high T3 resin uptake and in hypothyroidism we will have low T3 resisn uptake
