A 68-year-old man presents for his annual physical examination. He is found to have shotty, nontender, bilateral anterior cervical and axillary lymphadenopathy. His hematocrit is 41.2%, and he has a leukocyte count of 15,000/mL with a predominant population of mature-appearing circulating lymphocytes that do not stain for tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase. His platelet count is 186,000/mL.

A. He has acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is liable to die within months
if not treated
B. The diagnosis is Hairy Cell Leukemia
C. The next test should be immunophenotyping of the lymphocytes to
demonstrate monoclonality
D. The presence of diffuse lymphadenopathy in an asymptomatic
individual makes a large cell lymphoma the likely diagnosis
