Which are the main regulatory enzymes of glycolysis?

  #2

hexokinase, phosphofructokinase, pyruvate kinase

Here is one of them:
9 mo old baby is evaluated for hemolytic anemia. The oxygen dissociation curve is shifted to the right. Which enzyme deficiency is most likely related for this Pt's condition?

  #4

Well I would say pyruvate kinase or hekoxinase , but i am not sure why would that decrease o2 affinity. Can you please explain me that.

  #5

Absolutely, Pyruvate kinase deficiency. In this case right shift is caused by accumulation of 2,3-BPG due to abnormal anaerobic glycolysis. Actual intermediate is 1,2-BPG but RBCs have phosphoglycerate mutase, wich produces 2,3-BPG, which binds to Hb A and decreases its affinity for oxygen. Plus, decrease in ATP production will result in decreased Na/K -ATPase activity, and therefore loss of ion balance causes in osmotic fragility, leading to swelling and lysis. RBCs destroyed in a spleen.

I understand .Thanks.
