Hello Everybody,

Well first of all good luck in your exams and for those who are done with theirs I truly hope that you get into the program of your choice.

I was wondering if you could advice me about what books are useful for the preparation of STEP 2. I will starting preparing for it in two weeks. Also what is the average period of time to prepare for it, and I know it might be asking too much now but how many hours per day are recomended?

What is CMDT?

Asmi do you have any advise thank you.

Enrique

I'd like to know too. Would it be worthwhile to review step 1 materials? E.g. High Yields, etc?

Hi Enrique,

Yes i shall definately advise you to set your target date first to crack step 2 CK.I think 3 months r more than enough ,if you can give as much time possible ,even though we are not studying full time( since we are working as well) ,i think if you give 6-10 hours per day ,it would be fine.

About material I think kaplan notes + CMDT( current medical diagnosis and treatment text)+ crush ( for last week) is enough for a good prep .
 Practising as many Q's as u can is imp .

If you need any guidance ,you can always reach me .

I have notice that it might have some influence in your scores the experience you have had in the past in a holspital or clinic. Those of you preparing for Step 2 and those who have taking it already have much clinical experience have you had already?

Good luck to all and keep working hard. Do not give up!!

Asmi good luck in the observatorship and great score on the Step 2.

Hi enrique.....
My exam is in 3 weeks..so im not sure any of the following will help or not...smiling face.Ive been using the standard kaplan lecture notes plus cdmt for refer plus qbank/qbook combo.....Im also using crush the boards...Id recommend 4 readings.....I think 4 months are enough for that.
HOWever..I just got my hands on 2 books:
First aid for the usmle step 2:
The problem with this book is that its pretty thick. I havent done all of it, but The chapters I have done (as a supplement to kaplan ) are cardiology and emergency medicine, nephrology, pulmonology. I recommend that u do Er med(15 pages) and cardio(30 pages) from this if u have time.

Brochert mock exam:
15 blocks of 50 questions each. Not bad..good explanations. Some negatively worded Qs. But good prac.

Good luck with your prep!.

Almost forgot:
For Obs/gyne:
Along with the kaplan lecture notes for obs gyne..buy High Yield Obs/gyne...Read the text from Kaplan lecture notes and after that....do ONLY the vignettes from High Yield...since most of the text is the same...

Thanks enrique,

What i would say is yes ofcourse clinical exp makes it little easier .But again the exam will be doable ,since recently my friend got step 1 Q's in step 2 ..physiology,biochem ,micro/immuno etc .He is sad because clinical exp didn't helped him in his exam.
