The 5 W's For Remembering Common Causes of Fever Post-Operation:
WATER, WIND, WALK, WOUND, & WEIRD DRUGS
WATER = urinary tract infections
WIND = atelectasis or pneumonia
WALK = deep vein thrombosis
WOUND = surgucal wound infection
WEIRD DRUGS = drug induced fever
Good One it's better if remembered this way
WIND = Atelectasis 1st POD
WATER = UTI 3rd POD
WALK = DVT 5th POD
WOUND = Wound Infection 7th POD
Wonder why = abscess
Weird drugs = medications(last 2 after 10th POD)
POD = Post Operative Day

Neck injury; to confirm vertebral fracture when Xray is equivocal
Aortic Rupture (after Xray, Before Aortogram)

Hi, mdwannabe acutually wound is after trombophebitis.
Wind (atelectasis)
Water (UTI)
Walk (thrombophlebitis)
Wound (infected)
Wonder where (abscess)
Wonder drugs.
The way I remeber the order it's thinking about Katrina (the Hurricane, not that bully girl from highschool)...
First, the Wind then the Rain (Water) then you run (walk) then you trip and fall (Wound), and you Wonder what happened
now just add the day it presents with ascending odd numbers 1 3 5 7 (10 for abscess)
For drug there is no day, can be from day one, you suspect drugs after you rule out other causes.
