 RBC in 200 mM NaCl and 600 mM Urea

Hi everyone!
I don't know what would happen to the RBC in this situation. Hope you help me guys! smiling face


200mM NaCl will dissociate into 200 particles of Na + 200 particles of Cl = 400mosm solution which is hypertonic. Hence the RBC will lose water -> shrinks

urea crosses all inter compartmental barriers so its not an effective osmole. no change in RBC volume cuz some of the urea will go inside it as well
