hi to all, i am wondering if there is any Nigerian in this forum.
anyone preparing for the USMLE.
has anyone from Nigeria been issued a visa from Lagos to go to the US to take the step 2CS. i think it is very very unlikely, if not impossible. no matter what ever you demostrate to the consolate.
if there is anyone who has succeded in the process, please holla at me back, can you share what was your strategy.
thanx
cheers

i'm a nigerian preparing for step 1.i don't think they are going to let you come here to work.americans just don't want to hear that you are going to their country to work.they also know that once you get your visa as a medical doctor you will never get out of this place and that is the reason why they refuse to give anybody a visa.do you have some materials for you exam?

Hi, I'm a nigerian. saw ur post. Have u completed step 1 n step 2 CK? anyway, i'm just fresh on the block, in my final year in medschool and just about to start the whole USMLE process. So i really don't know how difficult it is to get a visa. Even with your scheduling permit for the exam?
Pls do share with me ur experience. Pray u are given your visa promptly.

niger man, you are very correct. they will hardly issue a visa for a nigerian... especially from nigeria. i am a nigerian living in italy, i did my step 1 in italy and i went to ask for a visa to go and do step 2 CS, the consolate refused to give me.
i had everything i think was necessary....visa letter from ecfmg, i have a good job here in europe, good bank report, etc...
the only reason i can make out was because i am not yet married and not a european. they hadly refuse visas to european.... it is not our fault that we were born in africa.

Dear Doc,
Try and make contact with programs here that might be interested in you and your scores. They might be able to present a strong case for you by documentation ,fax or even calls to the embassy in Nigeria.Another option is a visiting visa but do not hide the fact that you will be sitting for the exam while you are here because they can easily find out.
Most importantly ,trust God to make a way for you believe me He can .With Him Nothing is impossible.Just hold on ,pray and trust him.I will pray for you.

Cheers
Rehoboth

To be born in Africa is not a fault!!

Thanx Rehoboth for your words of encouragement.
Currently, I am residing in Europe. I study here in Europe and I hope to go back in Nigeria after some years. Brotha, I have tried to make some contacts there in the U.S, but it has not been that easy. I will keep on trying…. It is so sad to let all my sacrifice go in vain after having had a good score in step 1 and paying all that huge money to register for the other steps…..

Son64, of course it is not a fault to be born anywhere…. But the difficulties an African (and most third world citizens) will go through to achieve anything in the western world is so amazing. I don’t know where you are from, but if you where an African (worst of all, if you are not yet married) I think you can understand better. I am proud to be an African and happy that I had obtained so much in life notwithstanding the difficulties I had to go through.

You will know what it means when you go to an embassy with your European friends for a visa to travel to that country, all your friends are given the visa and when it comes to your turn……. All of a sudden the rules change…. No visa for you.
Or you want to travel for a conference with colleagues, all your colleagues don’t need visa while you apply for a visa and you are being refused. How can you explain?

It is not a fault to be born anywhere, but if you are born in a third world nation and maintain that citizen, life seems to be more difficult. That is very unfair…….

Peace

My niger brothers
I,ve done step 2 and about to do step 1
Luckily I also hold New Zealand residence so a visa is not required for the usa
I know how difficult it is visa wise as my NZ passport made life so much easier for me
