Hi everybody,
I am new to this community. I am preparing right now for ECFMG exams and planning to take them soon. I plan to come to US on J1 visa. I have gone through the concerned the websites and gathered all the requirements for J1. I can understand the rest of the things however just confused about the State Health Dept. approved hospital/clinic letter. Can anyone please focus on this requirement that how can I obtain a letter from any Hospital.
I hope you get my point. Thanks in advance.

You will come to the US on a J1 visa once you are hired. For the interviews, you will come on a different visa.

Once you have been hired, the hospital will provide you with the material that you need.

I can't tell you what visas applicants come on when they take the USMLE's - it could be a tourist or student visa. That happens way before I get to know IMGs. Technically, can you contact hospitals for employment? I don't know the answer to that.

For a J-1 visa, you come to the USA, you interview for residency positions, once hired in a residency - then you apply through the ECFMG for sponsorship of your J-1 visa.

For thorough information on getting a J-1 visa - contact the http://www.ecfmg.org web site - the information is there.

If you are from India, then i can tell you this is a letter you get from Delhi, dept./ministy of health. You would already know how to deal with Govt. officials, dont you?
