Hello everybody! smiling face
I'm a family doctor practising in Italy. I'd like to move to the US to specialize in othopedics but I don't know if I'm too old for USMLE. I'm actually 31. D'u think that would be a problem for my application? :?: or I just have to study and study? :? I was graduated in 2000 and I've been working for 4 yrs.

HELP!!!!!!!

Tegni!

This is not true if you too old! I know this doctor was working as an internist for many years and later change his mind and going into surgery. Age is not factor. Your score in step 1 and step 2 are matter.

Hi guys, I am 35, currently in US as Postdoctoral Reseach Associate. Passed Step 1, studying for Step2CK [late November], Step2CS January 05. To match 2007 [two year home residency requirement, J1 visas, Fulbright grant]. I am afraid I will be too old in 2007.. I am neurologist in my home country eligible to work in EAA countries. But US clinical life is what I would like to try. Is it worth? Please, reply... :?

Hi. I've registered for Step 1. My plan is to take it in April 04. Where can I obtain Kaplan notes? I don't have any time to do the kaplan course, only selfstudying.

Hi !

Cheer up ! You are not alone. I was a Surgeon in my country, recently moved (8 months back gave my step 1 step 2 ck step 2cs) and now applying for residency. It looks difficult when you have to study biochem physio histology but when you are done , thousands of doors open.
good luck friend

I entered residency at age of 34, 7 yeas after graduation from medical school

Do you guys know if a late year of graduation (1996) would be a disqualification? Do you personally know anybody who got into residency with that burden?

  #19

there are IM programs that require a maximum of 5 yrs. since graduation..others require maximum of 2 yrs..there are other programs that have no requirements for graduation year.

  #20

How can you check if the program has a grad year cut-off? Do they officially put it in their requirements?

  #21

I graduated in 1994 and got into the Neurology residency . I did already complete a neurology residency in my home country and I am board certified neurologist there , I have couple publications . I did stay at home with my children for the past 4 years but did an observership in US last year . I also have some clinical US experience from my resident years . Got recomendation letters from 2 US neurologists I worked with .
So there is a hope for everyone .

Call the programs and find out about the cut -off year . Some programs have strict rules some will look past your graduation year .

Unfortunately, this information is not posted in FREIDA. You'll just have to email the programs where you want to apply.
