Those seeking for h1b visa must have step 3 in their pocket.But how is that possible when step 3 can be taken during your residency.Are there some some states that allow you to go for it before the begining of residency?

There are a couple of states that will let you sit for Step three without being in a residency. I think that CT is one of them. The USMLE web site should have that information.

Yes Anno........There r certain residencies/states which require u to finish ur step3 before joining it and certain states/residencies which will allow to give it after u join......

There are 12 states which allow you to take Step3. NY is one of these. You can also see the list in First Aid for Step 1

Consider applying through California or Connecticut who let you do this. If you take it in New York you are forced to pay for your $700 licence at the same time, which you don't technically need (and is a waste of money if you go elsewhere for residency).

I spoke with the FSMB who RECOMMENDED that I do this. They are helpful, don't leave you on hold for ever, and actually advise you well. :roll:
