There are a couple of states that will let you sit for Step three without being in a residency. I think that CT is one of them. The USMLE web site should have that information.

Yes Anno........There r certain residencies/states which require u to finish ur step3 before joining it and certain states/residencies which will allow to give it after u join...... The info regarding step3 can be seen at www.usmle.org.......

There are 12 states which allow you to take Step3. NY is one of these. You can also see the list in First Aid for Step 1

Consider applying through California or Connecticut who let you do this. If you take it in New York you are forced to pay for your $700 licence at the same time, which you don't technically need (and is a waste of money if you go elsewhere for residency). I spoke with the FSMB who RECOMMENDED that I do this. They are helpful, don't leave you on hold for ever, and actually advise you well. :roll:
