24 year mother who gave birth to baby boy complaints of insomnia and irritability, she also at times has suicidal ideas after the childbirth. What is true regarding this patient?

Onset is characteristically within 12 hrs.
ECT is the treatment of choice.
Mothers bonding towards baby will be affected.
Separation mother and baby will help.
This is normal after give birth and don’t need any intervention

i would say bonding between child and mom will b affected.i do`nt think Ect since she is not acutely suicidal and other measures like psychotherapy and medications have not been tried. actually i think interpersonal psychotherapy is the best method of tx.
Also postpartum depression usually starts off abt a week or so after delivery

Separation mother and baby will help.

for postpartum depression and p.psychosis, separation of infant from mother is adviced

Ideally if the mother has suicide ideation she should be hospitalized for observation(just like and other psychgiatry case)but since this option isn't here I'll go with don't do anything.

You don't have to separate baby from mother as she has no intention of harming the child.
Bonding will not be affected as this is just a temporary thing.

I agree with reddy as there is a risk of killing their babies in pospartum depression and psychosis for different reasons, separate the babies from the mothers.
Please let us know the answer.
Thanks.

mothers bounding will be affected, absolutely....patient has post partum depression, not doubts, teh suicidal idea defines it.....so she needs SSRI....these disease unfortunately will affect the bound between bay and mother.....the other options are not consistent with postpartum depression
ECT is not the first option of treatment......
it is not normal an ideal of suicide, it needs treatment because 1% go to psychoses, and of course, pt can kill herself, ??????.......well, finally, nobody can predict the effect of depresion, so the best thing to do is star SSRIs.....
this is my answer...thanks
