let me b clear... kap micro listed some of org that cross placenta. in thta along with TORCH infections they mentioned polio virus also crosses the placenta. i didn't understand it....'cos as u said adulta are immune to polio they can't get the infection and so they can't transmit...right? and once if a girl gets the infec in her childhood does she carry the org lifelong? ( like HIV or herpes)...only in which case she can tranmit it transplacentally to the baby?

few points to note: the adults become immune to infection only bcoz of subclinical infection earlier in life. so if a person contacts the virus for the 1st time in adulthood he can still become infected, and remember, the infection is more severe in adulthood with greater chance of paralytic disease. regarding trnsplacental infecion, yes it crosses placenta but i havent read or heard about fetus getting infected this way. Although this seems possible i m not sure about it. i dont think that virus can stay as asymptomatic carrier.
