Hi guys, I am an IMG and took the Step 1 recently. I passed from the first try but my scores weren't good at all. How much does that influence your future search for residency. :x My other question is that I have been in the US for a couple years now and actually got my MPH (Masters in Public Health), but I came here straight after graduating medical college and so never really went thru an internship. How does that work for IMGs, can we apply directly to a residency program and if what are the steps towards doing an internship? Thanks.

Hi I'm not sure about the technicalities but there are some colleges which incorporate internship in their curricula and there some which not.....so in your case....it had been incorporated since you didn't have to go through it again after graduating. In respect to score I suppose it is an accumulation of both your steps in the USMLE and also the type of programme you're applying to.

Thanks for your reply malaysia. I had had a conversation with the Director for a Preventive Residency program once and she asked me if I had gone through an internship - that is approved by the US Medical Board - I figure the answer to that is no. However my last year of med. school is kind of an internship and consisted of clinical rotations in the main specialties (peds, obgyn, surgery and internal med). I wonder if that is acceptable.
