Q: A cell from a buccal smear shows 3 barr bodies. The karyotype is:
1) 46XXXX
2) 47XXXX
3) 48XXXX
4) 49XXXX

hmm. i'm guessing it'd have to be 48xxxx otherwise you'd be aneuploid!

  #3

i agree 48XXXX

why can't it be 47xxxx

  #5

yeah..it's 48xxxx

  #6

While I understand why everyone chose it to be 48XXX because 46XX is normal genotype and has 1 barrbody.....so 3 barrbodies would mean 48XXXX.However I don't understand why all the other options are incorrect.....as long as you have an extra X chromosome it should form a barrbody. The question saya nothing about incompatible or incompatibility with life.....I personally feel all the answers are valid.

why not 46XXXX???

  #8

the way they mean this is, the number is the total number of chromosomes. so if you are 48XXXX, that means you have 44 non-sex chromosomes. normal. but any of the other choices implies more or less than 44 autosomes. not compatible with life.
