Hi

Can someone please explain to me what emancipation means? How old is someone normally emancipated?

Thanks

Emancipated minors are people under 18 years of age who can take thier own decisions about healthcare ,and they can give consent for medical proceedures.Usually, minors are not legally competent. These emancipated minors include-those in the military, those who are married and those with kids whom they care for.

Thanks for the response. So if a 14 year old girl has a daughter - can she make medical decisions for her?

Emancipated minors are treated as adults,i.e they are legally competent to take decisions. So i guess the 14 year old parent can take decisions for her kid if she is taking care of it.There is also something called partial emancipation in which some states consider 16 year old kids as adults for certain issues-contraception,prenatal care, substance abuse std treatment.Do correct me if i am wrong.
