I am from Dow Medical University. I must say that it is not easy for moms to study for the steps with kids at home. I congratulate you and all moms on this forum who are determined to pass exams along side their other responsibilties. Its an oppertunity for you to show once again this world your "women power" :wink:
FH, I would recommend to read Kaplan for Surgery. BP for Psyc is more than enough. Crush is a must.

Thanks for the update. I know exactly what you mean. I too was trying very hard not to skip a single day or all my organization in terms of household management and kids would start to collapse . Its the routine that's the hardest to make and easiest to break. I am here in Omaha, Nebraska. Have been here for quite a while. I feel as if I am the most seniormost SMCian on the forum! Well lets not get into that!!!! :oops:
Tell me, have you collected all the material? And any ideas when you'd take the test. I have already applied , but my permit would arrive in 20 days. I am almost done with Psychiatry. Did it with BP, kept Kaplan and first aid with me, just to pick up few points. BP is detailed but there is a lack of Statistics and Ethics chapters so Kaplan covers it very well.
Anyway, I am behind my schedule, but definately want to start Peds by the end of this month or maybe finish OBS/Gynae. I don't know.
How about you?

hmm I strongly beleive that Iam the most senior one here :oops: :lol: :lol: .But that's OK with age u get experience and wisdom :wink: :wink:
Anyways I just applied for may-june-july.Stitt need to send paper application.I am hoping to take S2 by end of may .That wud be perfect for me as I can spend good summer vcation with my kids.I don't even want to talk about postponing cz that psychlogicaly slows me down but If I felt I am not ready I might postpone it to end of June.I still need to pass Cs. I don't have any clue when.All this with household gets so overwhelming.Allah helped me pass the first one and I an again asking for Allah's help.
Thanks for the tips for Psych.I havn'tdone it yet.For med I like Kaplan and also for surg.As a matter of fact I am just going to stick with Kaplan for everyhing.Even that is too much for me .I don't think I'll pick up any other bood.I know it is risky but honestly that is the most i can do.Even for step1 I did kaplan notes(not even FA).May God help us all.when r u planning to take S2.Good luck.

Sorry to reply so late. My friend also from the forum just passed today in step1!
I have registered for the June -July-August period. have mailed my paper application part last week, also applied for CS in August(Thats a tentative date they require!)
Anyway, I think Kaplan is good and I am thinking of keeping it my primary source as well and keeping blueprints as a referance.

Hmmm..sound like a good plan to me.I am sure u'l do very well.Kep up the good work.I ahve just started Psych today it is pretty good.I hope it stayes in by brain cells :wink: as slippry my brain is getting.I am thinking if I should do UW after first reading or after 2nd one.What do u say?? :?:

Hi, u seem to be on the tract.I like Kaplan notes.Though I seriously think if i hadn't done Stp 1 b4 i wudn't get much out of it.But Step 1 kind of fills in the gaps plus for my life style I want somthing to the point and less time cosuming.SometimesI wonder how will I do my residency but then I don't worry too much about that.I just focus on one thing at a time.
U know wat my best friend's name was Shahana when I was in SMC.

You are sooo right that step1 is helping in reading the step2 stuff.
Hamidi, out of curiosity wanted to know what batch are you from SMC?
Maybe we know each other. I am senior, trust me!

Anyway, I plan to take uw also, they say it takes 3 monthes to do while doing your reading.
For me, I think I do want to do at least 1st reading by itself so as to familiarze the extenct of certain topics. Then do all the frills and questions with the second reading. Also, my anxiety level will be reduced somewhat (hopefully!), after completeing the 1st reading.
You know my husband had took 15 days offbefore my exam, the kids had no school at that time, so I was putting in 12-14 hours/day. I liked that mode as you retain much more if you read and redo them in a sequence, but this is not an option right now, I am chauffering around my kids and doing the chores of a dutiful mom and housekeeper, am getting frustrated by not being able to concentrate. So this anxiety has started enveloping me as suddenly I don't know how to manage time!!.
By the way how old are your kids? Mine are 11, 8 and 4 years old.

Hi FH I can totally relate to what u r saying.But u know what keeps me calm is , I keep remiding myself that I am the only Mom my kids have.Alhumdulillah(by the grace of God),we have a full and complete life.Our passin to pass usmle and work as a Dr is an added bonus.No need to get frustrated.Before we know it our kids wud be all grown up .I am so gratefull to God that I cud enjoy each and every step of my kid's life.There is nothing in the world like being a Mom . .Just take one day at a time, b4 u know it u'll be done with All the tests(sound so good :shock: doesn't it??)
BTW my daughter is 13 and my son is 9.They are in a goo age MashaAllah.Esp my daughter is very helpful.
so when r u planning to take ur test(CK &CS)?

Yes Hamidi , you are so right. Its just sometimes things do get overwelming, but I too am very glad that I have walked all my toddlers by holding their hands and heard their very first words. Thanks for bringing things again in prospective.
ECFMG e-mailed me 2 days ago that they received my paper part of the application for ck and cs. I think by next week or so the permit would arrive. (That becomes my strong motivation the "orange" paper!!)
I am aiming for the end of June for ck and maybe mid of Aug for cs.
That all depends what dates are available for cs as I want to take it in Chicago. So these are the tentative dates so far.
