dear bbb,

i know that this is the busiest season for you. but i do hope that you can spare some time to answer my questions. you see, i have already applied to 28 IM programs. my questions are:

1. when do we usually get a response (whether an interview schedule or rejection) from the programs that we applied?

2. is it ok to write them a follow-up letter/email? (won't they find it rude?)

3. and if 2 is ok, then when is the best time to send it?

again, i know that you are busy and that is why i truly appreciate whatever time you have spared for me. thanks again and God bless you.

You may never get a response - or you may get an email. Each program does different things. I send out just 2-4 batches of rejections at one time. It's too difficult to send out acknowledgements on a daily basis, and even when I received paper applications, it was impossible to do.

2. is it ok to write them a follow-up letter/email? (won't they find it rude?)

No, it's not rude, but don't be surprised if you don't get much of a response. With the number of applications in total, and 40-60 emails a day asking for application information, a follow-up email may just be lost in the crush.

3. and if 2 is ok, then when is the best time to send it?
