I think Kiran by saying "Quick hits " they want to refer to the margin notes in Step -up book.
Thats what i think.
Anyway niti can answer you the best.

  #402

the quick hits are the margin notes in step up grin

hello everybody

these days i've become very lazy to post the things i have done in my dairy.

well yesterday i did complete mol bio and genetics from kaplan.i shud go thru some of the topics in genetics once again.and then i did question....a set of 50....and again i got a low score.

ok guys happy studying!!!!

  #404

kiran, don't let up and try to stay focused. The more questions, and the more revisions are the key to success!

I know its discouraging to get low scores, but turn it around and do BSS till it goes up!

happy studying buddy

hi berk
thanks a lot for ur inputs here.

ya its very discouraging to get low scores.....i need to improve them,ya i like to incorporate BSS but i dont find time to do them.my day will be over after i complete a set of 50 Q and then revising some topics in kaplan....think i shud put more time for studying.i'm not even revising things which i have done wrong in the Q-bank.
as you have said i think i shud be more focussed....

happy studying!!!!

kiran? If you have time, I would do as niti says and if a score is low, revise the subject and do Qs again. Don't move on until the score goes up. I have limited time so I just opted for BSS to increase my score. And as you can see in my journal, I would do like 200-300BSS Qs straight in one day, in sets of like 75 or 100. My score would literally increase like 10-15% after about 200-300Q in one night. It works but its very tiring...

hi berk
thanks a lot for your prompt reply....

my time is too limited...by hook or crook i shud give this test by may 5.ya i have kept a week open so that i can postpone....so what i have is just till may 12.thats it.when i think about the time strain i just go down...i feel very low.

but i wont give up.yes i will work hard.when will i work hard if not now....i incresed my hrs. of studying but i feel i shud increse them more.
yes i i'll do them.

i'll definetly follow ur idea of BSS.i opened BSS books now.i completed almost 1 book previously.now i've opened the cardiovascular .....book.

aiming to complete it in 3 days...can i do them?lets see...i'll try if not i will give some more time.what do you say berk?

thanks a lot berk for suggesting this wonderful idea about BSS.BTW i'm also revising kaplan topics.today i opened pharmacology.
i slept a lot in the afternoon.so i have a lot of time for the night to study now.

ok just felt like venting all my stress here.dont mind...

happy studying!!!

I say you should read a subject. Take notes of the stuff you most likely will forget. and do some Qs from Qbank/book. If score is still low, do BSS Qs until score goes up. What is BSS from a book your talking about. I have a computer program bss thats in Qbank style program. Qs you can do on your computer.
There are 3850 Qs in my program, do you have that many?

hi berk
i'm following the kaplan books once again.now i've started with pharmac.i've the book version of BSS.they are totally 5 books, each containing 4 sets of tests.and each test has 180 Q.so i think that may come up to 3600 and odd.this is an older version of BSS.i got them from a friend of mine.but what i've heard is that the cd and the books are totally same with few exceptions.
and i also i covered most of the Q-book.

i'll make a schedule now so that i may not get lost in the midst of so many books and questions.i think i got lost.justs studying randomly....hey thanks BERK you made me realise this.....

thank you once again.

happy studying!!!

ooops sorry for posting it twice!!!!

  #412

I couldn't figure this schedule out and the proper way to study until mid prep, I wish I knew this was the way to go. I was also all over the place in the beginning, doing Qs without any revisions, reading and not doing Qs...

So don't worry, start subject by subject, if you're quick and disiplined, you can get thru all the material 3 more times before your exam.

Hi Kiran,

How are things going? While doing Qs definitely helps you to retain stuff, if you are running out of time and can only do one thing---that should be reading kaplan notes. Most people I know do a lot of Qs, except this one friend. All she did was Qbank, Qbook, NBME form 1 and USMLE CD. She focused on reading and understanding the kaplan notes. She ended up with 96. (She is also from my country, non-English background) Just something you might want to know, so that in case you are really running out of time, you would know it's possible to get a good score without finish the thousands of Qs.

  #414

hi wombat
thanks a lot for your valuable suggestion.yes now i'm going thru the kaplan notes once again before taking the nbme form 1.
till now i've completed genetics, mol bio ,bio chem and half way thru pharma.planning to complete pharmac by tomorrow.and yes its going on pretty fastly than i expected.......one plus point amidst so many negative things.

ok guys will hit the books again....

~kiran.

  #415

Hi kiran,
u r doing great .I found the same strategy best for my revisions too..before going through Qs ..I am revising notes again !
keep up & don't get stressed out...bec. u r not alone..so many of us got through this situation & now doing good..
with wishes..
niti

  #416

hey niti
thanks a lot for your encouraging words.....

ya now i'm ok though i'm scoring low.its just that i've completed 10%of my Q-bank and there is still 90% to complete it.so i'm trying to be optimistic so that my studying will be more productive.i lost many days just because of my brooding over my low scores since past many days.

thanks a lot my friends......

Hi kiran & krushna,

Bye
niti

  #418

Hey Niti....(sorry it is for all who want to join)...
I just wanted to say that me and kiran figured out that we should make some revision chat in which we will revise the high yield things in each subject.Because it might happen soem of us not giving good attention to all high yiled areas or is weak and we can save few mistakes in real exam, right kiran?
So the job is real big.Revisinthe subject, doing FA ,making out what is the most important,i mean what you MUST know. and finally assessing wheather we can apply it in questions on ourselves.Basically it s all about "IMPROVING OURSEVLVES IN OUR SCORES".
What i want to say regarding this ,as i told kiran it might feel more strict,we should make a real good study group .Whoever is in is in by dedication.Study group shd be of people who are in their 3rd revision or last phase of exam.I mean everybod is welcome but these people shd be constant, everytime.Time canbe decided on all group member's comfort. Why i am saying this because this group making is realy important.Thats how we can push each other.Unless everybody will make excuse and get caught somewhere.Again time consumption. It seems me almost same time we are giving exams, right?
so we shd be together in last month .We shd shout on each other if we r doing well.We can comfort each other if something goes wrong. This wil be like a team work.good teamwork!
So does it sounds good to you?
We can help each other a more better way with this method.
It may be 2 times a week or once a week.We can start with any subject. But it should happen. We should keep check on each other,on ourselves .We should finish this test with flying colors.Utter dediction will be required, which is also required to fight this devil.
Let me know ur thoughts.
Any feedback is welcome.
Happy studying!

hi krushna

it sounds good to hear such strictness, disciplinme etc...but to be realistic can we stay like that????i know something or the other comes in between and someone or the other will drop out.i' myself cant promise that i can be so strict....

lets do like this....you prepare the schedule and post it in the support form
and see how many responses we get....right!!!!

lets see how it works...if we get enuf responses then we will continue or else we will drop the idea of this discussion.

~kiran.

groups, but alas i am at my end of my prep. I feel small groups are better than large groups. I think there is enough of you in this forum to get a lot of work done since we are all regulars here already.

Just my random thoughts,
best of luck to you guys
