Hey Sis

Good morning. Thanks for posting your schedule. Looks like a good plan. And Niti's advice is definitely useful. What are your weaker topics? I'm struggling with cardio pharm at the moment. Argh!

See you soon, Kiran.

Regarding mol. bio. & gen...give some more time for these 2 subjects ...
Bye...
niti

thanks for the post! May 5th the big day huh? you got plenty of time. Make sure you go snails pace and really get to know your subjects well. Than later you can just zip thru each subject....sort of a review of your review....
although, if your like me and forget stuff as soon as your on the next page....well, I'm reading path for the 4th time now but I swear its like I'm reading it for the first time. I see highlights and underlines, but I'm sure this is the first time I've read this stuff. grin

hello everybody

i cud not complete mol bio and genetics.....really dont feel like studying now....at the same time i can feel the frustation, tension everything about the exam.
on 15 i'm going to take the usmle cd.i know this can be very small test compared to the real exam....but what if i cant score well even in this small test.....i'm wasting time by watching tv,browsing....etc.
shud become more disciplined.....

today i did biochem test in q-book and got 60%.somehow my score in q-book is not raising.any suggestins friends how improve my score.what i heard was that the q-book questions are very easier and i'm not able to score well in these itself....

i need all your help...please...any suggestions or tips...

when i'm reading i feel like doing questins and when i'm doing questions i feel like reading theory.

  #383

Well kiran....your anxiety & tension about exam is normal..bec. sometimes I feel the same way..but,think.. this time is v. crucial so,just try to utilize as much as u can..try to focus on more imp. HY stuffs now..I made my list ..u can do the same..
Still there is enough time,u can revise well ( if u want..even, every pg. of kap's notes)..at present,I started making short notes on FA..I don't know if I will get time to revise those again..but,only writing makes me memorize those imp. points..
Keep Up..

Hey Sis

Yep, we all go through tough times when studying, especially when we look over stuff we zipped through during the first reading. It will all add up though, however difficult and demotivating it feels like at the moment.

60% for biochem from QBook isn't bad Kiran. When was the last time you went through it? For a subject that requires so much memorisation, I find it works to stick post-it notes all over my room with all the enzyme pathways, rate determining steps, enyzme-deficiency diseases, etc. Hope that helps.

Yours,
Moc

  #385

hey niti and moc and kerochi
thanks a lot for your suggestions and encouragement.it meant a lot to boost my confidence up.

anyway i did another set of questions in bio chem from Q-book....got 60%.did not improve at all......

niti, you are doing q-bank rt.....how did you start like system wise or subject wise...which one is better?any suggestions on how to do the q-bank?it would be really great if you or anyone else can give me any ideas...or suggestions.

ok got to go back now.....

bye
kiran.

Hi Kiran,

If I could do Qbank all over again, I would do it mixed style. Since you can only read one subject at a time, doing mixed Qs helps you keep in contact with the rest 6 subjects. Don't worry about low score, keep doing them and read notes. I found it easier to retain stuff after you've seen them in Qs, also you know it's more important. I haven't taken the exam yet, so I don't even know what I said makes sense. Anyway keep reading and your score in practice test will surprise you (This is what my friend told me). Good luck

  #387

hey wombat
thanks for your encouragement and the time time you have taken to write in my dairy.

you will definetly do well in the exam...my wishes are with you.

happy studying!!!!

  #388

I suggest doing the questions subject wise for now. Its better to put your organize your studies that way. While I do agree it would be awesome to have done all of qbank random, I think its only good to do that if you are a genius- which I'm def. NOT. Its not good for moral to do them random. but in the end it depends on your learning style, we're using the questions to learn right?....thats what I try to keep telling myself.

Hey Kiran
I am in same boat as you. After 3 rd revsion also ,i am doing bad in qbank.
Last week was very bad for me,i almost had given up but after talking with my dad ,now i understood thats not the way ! Ye,i cant do that.I was facing same problem as you ,not improving in qbank.I talked this thing with one of my professor.According to him,i should take a restart.I mean i can't forget what i ahve learned till now.But according to him...i was too slow in my revisions and that thing is giving bad impact on my scores. He thins i should finish everything in one go..there shd be no stopping at all.Not even sunday..no birthdays...no family issues ..nothing.
I just shared this with you.Hope you will also discuss things with somebody and will finish all the thoughts about bad performance, there shd be only going ahead.
I wasted some time to come out of things.Dont do the same mistake.
Just go on,do it ,do it....and your efforts will be rewarded.I am sure, you will do it ,Kiran.
When you get tough time ,analise urself.make corrections.and go ahead!
All the best!

hi berk and krushna
thanks a lot for your inputs.....yes now i have decided to do the Q-bank this way...
i have the access for it for one month.....and it has total 2100.so i'll do the first 1000 Q subject wise which makes it clear in which subject i'm weak and on what subject i have to stress.and then i'll do the rest of the questions in a random manner....i know i'll repeat some of the questions this way :?: .....but i think its more worth if i do it this way.can anybody throw some light if i'm wrong????????
and i too feel that q-bank shud be like a learning tool.i'll try to incorporate BSS also....but i'm left with 4 books still.will i be able to do so?
i shud and i'll try.

krushna
i can find myself in your shoes for most of the times......after i read your posts on most of the times.......strange isn't it?

  #391

Hi kiran,
How r u? Sorry, for the late reply ..regarding Qbank..initialy, I started random..but got low scores..so swithced to subjectwise..that way,I found it much easier.I am using it as a learning tool instead of my real test predictor..that's why if I get high score ( after doing it subjectwise)...I don't feel that this is something great...I want to see that score in random set !! anyway, still need to finish big part of everything..
Best thing we can do...just keep going
With Wishes...
niti

hey Kiran smiling face

Great decision to start with qbank a month before your exam and I think as well as niti that doing it subject wise gives you more confidence in yourself  close to the exam try to do it random though.
Doing Great kiran, Keep it up buddy grin/

Hi Kiran!
I had already suscribed the online qbank last month.
Now i am confused.I had completed 1500-1600 questions that time. Not really good scoes. But did.
Now i learnt from somebody that there is a cd of qbank. So i am just biased either to buy cd or online qbank.
I think i will borrow the cd from my firend and will burn it.I will try it.If it is same ,i will continue it.It will be a bit money saving for me.Dont know...? sad
Do you know ,wheather its the same thing or not?
One thing i know for sure,it wont give me feedback and wont show my weak and strong areas.I will have to aseess myself on my own or by some other tests. So i will do it with the help of NBME.so ok...i guess i will do it like this.
Sorry i babbled a lot in ur diary......
All the best.
Happy studying.

  #394

hello all

its been a while that i posted in my dairy...reason...the same thing...not scoring well.i lose most of my scores in mol bio and genetics.so today i'm planning to revise mol bio and start genetics tomorrow.

i subscribed Q-bank yesterday.done 2 blocks of tests till now.....scoring around 58-60%....feel so bad to write down my scores....

will get back to my studies now.

  #395

hey kiran,
thanks for the post.
Don't feel bad, although I know it hurts--> I'm always bitching about low scores hurting my pride. Just take the lows and turn them around. Everytime I score in the 60s, I open my BSS and do as many questions as it takes on that subject to get it up to the 70s. ITs been working so far!!!
happy studying.

hey berk thanks a lot for giving me a suggestion about BSS.i really like the explanations in them though they are outdated now.will definetly include them in my schedule.

happy studying

  #397

Hi kiran,
Good to see your new entry...it really makes me feel that we r still alive 8) even u don't think this way..but,I can say this for sure... u r doing v. well..first time Q Bank score..that's not so bad & u know... I read some posts about q bank..some says these qs r harder than real test qs ?? I just don't want to beleive this "sweet truth" wink ...but if its true..we r on the safer side..rt !!
Keep up your hard work...
With Wishes..
niti

  #398

BSS is a good idea because the questions are short, you can get thru a lot of them, they repeat a lot of information, explanations are great, and they don't have the pressure of qbank and qbook in having to get a great score. grin
its about 8:30am now, and I just woke up. Fear is getting me to get up early. Yesterday studied from 7am - 1am. (minus a 40 minute nap, meals, shower, bathroom breaks, and a 1 hour conversation with a friend where we were just bitching about taking this exam) grin
gotta start fresh! only 13 more days!
