why is zafirlukast/montelukast especially good for aspirin-induced asthma??FA2012 P576

as aspirin block Cyclooxygenase enzyme ( COX) & no effect on lipooxygenase enzyme which act on arachidonic acid to produce leukotriens ( other bronchoconstrictors ) that lead to bronchoconstriction. Thus, ziluton are used to block lipooxygenase enzyme preventing leukotriens synthesis but zafirlukast are more preferred as it is active antagonist to leukotrien receptor & effective also in exercise , antigen & aspirin induced asthma..hehe..emm..my opinion.!! wink nod
