C1 estrase deficiency -----> dec degradation of active C1 -----> increased formation of anaphylatoxins ------> edema

Deficiency of C1 esterase inhibitor leads to less degradation of C1 and increase release of C2 derived kinins which causes increase vessel permeability that furtur causes recurrent swelling of face & oropharynx.
Basically heriditary angioedema is AD dis. and in this complement become overactive so there will be decrease C4 and C2 .C3 will be normal and total hemolytic component assay is low.Treatment is androgens.

just to add:
Recurrent large circumscribed areas of subcutaneous edema of sudden onset, usually disappearing within 24 hours; seen mainly in young women, frequently as an allergic reaction to foods or drugs
