Hey All you IMG's Here is some more good news. Does it ever end? The ECFMG(r) Reporter An E-Newsletter for International Medical Graduates Pursuing Graduate Medical Education in the United States Issue Fifty-Nine - August 26, 2004 ********************************************** IN THIS ISSUE: - UPDATED INFORMATION: DEADLINE FOR 2004 USMLE(tm) APPLICATIONS - AVAILABILITY OF 2005 INFORMATION BOOKLET / APPLICATION MATERIALS ********************************************** UPDATED INFORMATION: DEADLINE FOR 2004 USMLE APPLICATIONS If you are applying for examination, refer to the updated information below for completing your 2004 application in time for it to be processed. As previously published, the deadline for receipt of 2004 applications for Step 1 and Step 2 CK is August 31, 2004. However, for 2004 Step 2 CS applications, the deadline for receipt has been extended to September 30, 2004. All deadlines are calculated using Eastern Time in the United States. FOR STEP 1 AND STEP 2 CK The last 2004 eligibility period for Step 1 and Step 2 CK is October 2004 - December 2004. The deadline for ECFMG's receipt of complete applications for this eligibility period is August 31, 2004. To apply on-line using ECFMG's Interactive Web Application (IWA) for the October 2004 - December 2004 eligibility period: - the on-line portion of the application must be submitted before August 31, 2004, AND - your completed Certification Statement (Form 183) must be received at ECFMG no later than August 31, 2004. Please note that this deadline may be earlier than the deadline indicated in the Instructions for the Certification Statement and in correspondence you may receive from ECFMG. If you submit a paper Step 1/Step 2 CK application for the October 2004 - December 2004 eligibility period, your application must be received by ECFMG no later than August 31, 2004. If your 2004 Step 1 / Step 2 CK application is received after August 31, 2004, it will be rejected, and you will be required to reapply using the 2005 application materials. If your 2004 application is rejected, any payment received with your 2004 application will be credited to your ECFMG financial account. The first eligibility period for which you can apply using the 2005 materials is the November 2004 - January 2005 eligibility period. FOR STEP 2 CS The deadline for receipt of 2004 applications for Step 2 CS has been extended to September 30, 2004. To complete your 2004 Step 2 CS application using IWA: - the on-line portion of the application must be submitted before August 31, 2004, AND - you must print the Certification Statement (Form 183) before August 31, 2004, AND - your completed Certification Statement (Form 183) must be received at ECFMG no later than September 30, 2004. If you submit a paper 2004 application for Step 2 CS, it must be received at ECFMG no later than September 30, 2004. Although the deadline for receipt of 2004 Step 2 CS applications has been extended through September 30, once the 2005 application materials become available (expected on August 31), you will no longer be able to work on or access a 2004 application. If applying through IWA, you must submit the on-line portion of the application and print the Certification Statement before August 31. If you plan to submit a paper application, you must download the application from the ECFMG website before August 31. If your 2004 Step 2 CS application is received at ECFMG after September 30, 2004, it will be rejected, and you will be required to reapply using the 2005 application materials. If your 2004 application is rejected, any payment received with your 2004 application will be credited to your ECFMG financial account. Applicants who are registered for Step 2 CS are assigned a twelve-month eligibility period that begins on the date that the processing of their applications is completed. If your 2004 application is rejected, your Step 2 CS eligibility period will be assigned after you submit a 2005 application and the registration process for your 2005 application is complete. AVAILABILITY OF 2005 INFORMATION BOOKLET / APPLICATION MATERIALS The on-line and paper editions of the 2005 Information Booklet and Application Materials are expected to be available on the ECFMG website on approximately August 31, 2004. Yo tas Yeah, that is what it's saying. By "send in," I am assuming you mean electronic application submission. They have to recieve it on the 31st. I am going to go to the residency directors office, and see what he thinks would be a good time for me to take it. I would like to pre-match in a competitive residency, does anyone have any advice on when I should take it? Peace Lo

I don't think any competitive residency will let you prematch. Only the not so competitive ones do that. You should take your step II ASAP. As soon as you are ready. Most competitive programs deadline is Nov 15 or Dec 1, and they like you to be ECFMG certified by then. Then again, the competitive programs say their interview spots fill up before the application deadline. If you have any connections at a program, use them to ensure you get an interview scheduled, even if you have yet to take step II.
