So lets during an abdominal operation for a hernia repair the surgeons found a cancer on another organ, asymptomatic, not going to kill the patient today or next week. Should the surgeon
A. get the patient's family permission to take it out
B. Do nothing, discuss with the patient after she wakes up from the current op
C. Do another procedure so the abdominal site can be opened later much easily to perform the surgery
Minor surgery, not an emergency or life threatening, the patient is STILL the ultimate decision maker.
The choice should be B.
