HBV and HCV increase the risk of developing hepatocell carcinoma. this is best explained by:
A. consistent integration of these viruses in the vicinity of protooncogenes
B. ability to capture protooncogenes from host DNA.
C. virus-induced cell injury followed by extensive regeneration.
D. inactivation of Rb and p53 expression.
E. ability to cause immunosuppression of the host.

Ill go with answer-c

I'll guess D since Rb and p53 are tumor suppressor genes and I know that DNA viruses work by incorporating their genetic material into host DNA.

  #4

actualy hep b.....causes dna material incorporation into the host cell nucleus...
and hep c...interfere p53 tumor supressor gene activity...
...therefore confused
hey what is the answer

HBV does not have a consistent site of integration in liver cell N, both B and C do not encode for any transforming proteins, do not contain viral oncogenes.
Although many DNA viruses inactivate tumor suppressor genes, there isn't much evidence that HBV and HCV can do that by binding to Rb or p53.
Thus, the answer is C. extensive regeneration rises chances of developing mutations, such as inactivation of p53.
Well done, mjl! smiling face
