at 14 weeks gestation parents are told that the child which will be born has a congenital disease (100% sure) and will die few months after birth and the docs suggest abortion, instead parents continue the pregnancy and the baby is born with a cong disorder as docs predicted. after few days in nicu the parents want to end supportive therapy and let nature take its course. do they have that right as they had a chance to terminate pregnancy at 14 weeks ,when they instead chose to continue it ?

you always respect patient autonomy or in this case the parents since the child is minor and not at decision making capacity.

But remember if the parents want to do something which would harm the child, you have to protect the child. In emergency cases ie blood transfusion etc consent is implied.. In non emergent cases ie treatment for cancer you have to get court order..

In your case if the parents said okay to abortion legally Weeks it would have been okay. But once after that or especially when the baby comes out you have to protect the baby.
