Hey
these guys must be busy in their clinical postings now.
What i will say(i am using kaplan books),for directly doing the studies from kaplan you should have some basic course done in the respective subjective.
kaplan's path notes are not good at all.You can go through Goljan.audio as well as textbook.I f you will start it with listening to goljan,he will make lot of things very easy to you.He will build your basics.
Micro ,i will say its good in kaplan ,but i cant imagine it from your point of view. But if you will combine kaplan lecture notes with webprep,it will be good.
Behavioural is also good in kaplan, but its better to take a look in high yield book. For this subject ,i will say do lots of questions and it will give you more and more knowledge.
take your time, dont rush for these exams.
when will you have these subjects in your med school???
why dont you think to do it after that only???

Well, it will be tough to use review books if you don't have any background in those subjects. You are going to take the USMLE after you finish your paraclinical subjects right? Try studying from Kaplan/BRS (whatever book you want) after you have read the chapter from your class text. Alternatively, you can just read the corresponding chapters in your class text books and then study from the notes if you have the time.

i think it's a great idea to study for the steps during med school. however, it depends on how well you can handle your schedule. you can get first aid and have it as a guide on which topics to focus during your whole course. then take step1 right after second year.

retroviridae and josh have equally good points grin . whichever way you wanna go, keep this in mind: the review books are there only for review. if there's no background, they won't make sense to you.

thank u so much guys.......i m feeling much relieved now......actually in first 3yrs...that i have
studied...in my med school ....i have read anatomy,phsio,biochem,pharma.....in my 4th yr i will study micro and patho...during which i plan to study for this test..and by the end of yr just do it....we dont study behavioral sciences in this part of world.....we have some physcitary ward during our final yr....but not really b.sciences....so i will try to join some review course to do this job.....one more thing.....i have studied b.r.s for physio during my school exams......so i guess it will be much easier to revise it...as compared to kaplan physio that i havent even seen so far....so which is the better source....kaplan physio or b.r.s physio.....i dont wanna comprise on quality...so what ever u guys think is better just let me know....i can even do kaplan physio...it will be no problem for me....need your opinion....thank u...

In general, BRS physio is more info than Kaplan. Remember, most US students use BRS for physio and Patho. As for behavioral sci, I never studied it either. We did medical stats and epidemiology in Social and Preventive Med, and basic psych in our final med exams. I studied only from Kaplan and FA and for that subject was able to understand it. Don't think you need to worry about it, but it is a heavily emphasized subject.

i wouldn't give it until you were done with med school.... so much too much of the exam is clinical now... it's going to be vry hard to do it.... but i would suggest stick to kaplan notes... they are very good.. and if you get confused or can't understand a certain topic use the review books for that.... I tried re-reading javetz an katzung and liipincott (biochem) but there is too much irrelevant information in those books, (and a lof of important information those books don't cover like genetics).. US med students have the equivalent of a two year "kaplan" course during their medical school... so even first aid is enough for them because they are being taught by the same teachers that write the questions for the test. So don't just do somethin because american students do it... I went through brs physio once and while it was really good, i don't think it was enough.... you have plenty of time and you can do kaplan while your doing your normal coursework which will augment and complement ur understand....
