A pregnant couple comes to u.Mother is Rh-ve; father is Rh +ve; their first child is Rh-ve. wat advice wud u give?
A) RhoGam to prevent Hemolytic anemia in fetus
B)bcoz 1st child is Rh -ve, RhoGam is not reqd. normal preg precautions will be sufficient.

Good tricky, classical, H.Y. q buddy- with limited education Im going with answer-b- because there is no incompatibility with the Rh group.{word of caution usmle will probably throw in something about ABO}

yes i agree with mjl1717, the trick is that 1st baby was Rh -ve so there is nothing to be done.

But she still gets her shot before she goes into labor, right?

  #6

Only afterwards if the baby is Rh +

carmenburana has a point.....what if she had an abortion?Won't we just give her the shot anyhow....also there are some folks who give the shot after 28weeks of pregnancy plus after delivery.....why are they giving the shot at 28weeks when they still aren't sure of the fetus's Rh status??

u r right dat RhoGam is given at 28 wks and then after delivery (if baby is Rh+ve)
Rhogam is not given if mother has already been sensitized i.e if she has anti Rh Abs
but the question is specifically asking abt the risk of HA in present fetus and dat is nil coz 1st baby is Rh -ve.
